Karachi: In Federal Urdu University, female students of chemistry department invented an easy way to generate cheap electricity by new experiment. As the power shortage is an acute problem for Pakistan these days, the students are conducting different experiments to generate power or electricity.
As the departmental competition was going on at university level, the female students who are studying in BS final year used usual items like sea water to complete a “Homemade Battery” project and won the first position in the competition. It is also a message for our government that we can produce electricity with domestic items instead of purchasing the costly electricity from rental power plants owned by the foreigners in Pakistan.
The female students group that was consisted of the seven members including Nimra Ijaz Khan, Aqsa Saddiqi, Masoma Tariq, Mehwish Qausar, and Iqra Sultana completed this electricity project in seven days in the supervision of Dr. Yasmin. The female students used the sea water as the main source of electricity generation, because it has salts and considered to be the rich ions.
It is also pertinent to mention here that while talking to “Daily Nai Baat”, Nimra Ijaz one of these members said that we have produced electricity twice in two different projects, first time with sea water and second time with domestic items like vegetables and fruits.
In both of these projects in which the female students produce electricity, the sea water method was considered to be the best and more reliable than the method to produce electricity with vegetables and fruits. These females also proved that the females can perform well in the field of power generation by generating the electricity with sea water.
